Since January I've been teaching a mini-course named Bask In Your Beauty which revolves around sisterhood and helping young girls. We've done multiple mini-projects which are mainly based around self-love and sisterhood amongst not only the girls in the room but women in general.

I, along with two other students, Hanan Daher and Teia Hudson have spent the past months creating a podcast called ‘GEN Z: Let’s Increase Visibility’ discussing social issues affecting us and many others. The main reason why we decided to create our podcast was to inspire others in our community to talk about the world around us. We want to both educate and inspire intellectual conversations amongst our peers about social issues today. By understanding these social issues, we can know how to be better allies towards others in our community and work to build a better society. In our podcast, we speak on topics of racism, sexism, homophobia, etc.

Below is the first episode of our channel, the other episodes can be found on the channel.

Navid and I collaborated on my capstone project. We conducted a music history lesson at SLA Middle School. We aimed to assist the community by spreading the gift of music. Music is all around us, whether we recognize it or not. I want today’s and future generations to understand how music helps us cope with difficult situations. If you pay attention as you go about it, you will notice it more and more. Elevators, coffee shops, clothes stores, and other venues are examples of more frequent everyday settings. Music helps us bond by allowing us to share a common interest or show another person something new. Many individuals are interested in producing music as a pastime or simply for fun, so we helped our students locate new music and spread it out, which also will inspire them to do the same with others. After the project, I walked away with fresh insights about myself and new experiences. I had a good time with them and am pleased with the improvements I achieved. The most important thing I learned was that teaching is a difficult career requiring patience and attention.

During the 2021-2022 school year we had the task to create our senior project for the year. From the beginning I had a wrong plan which was to do some sort of community work. Or to help others. My project has had its ups and downs but I can say I stuck out to create something very different and thoughtful. For my project on elf my fist plans was to do a homeless food drive but I knew that that was something that many individuals do. My next project was fixing an out group by the name of a biyb to help encourage young women to be better. As time when on things changed and me and my partner went different way. Finally I choose to work by myself and to go to a women’s shelter and spend the day with them talking and making cake. More so I hosted a baking class for the individuals. It was so fun.The idea that I pulled off working by myself is something that I am extremely proud of, but I knew that I had in me. This project has to be one of my favorites by far of the entire year.. Overall I’m glad that the school year is over and I’m happy to have created such a thoughtful project that I will continue to talk about i hope you guys enjoyed and one day will look at my project as a example to show future students and peers..love anyah see you guys soon lol.

So for my capstone, I worked in the room across from the media lab on the second floor. I just added a few things to it to improve it. To make it feel homier.

For my capstone, my partner Jadyn and I decided to do a Talent Show. We were advocating for this talent show to happen because these past couple of years of living in a pandemic have been challenging for many of us all. I’m sure many are still trying to process everything that has occurred along with dealing with grief & loss. We believe that having this talent show will be refreshing, promote positive school spirit, uplift & support one another, and bring many together socially again. We can’t erase the past as we know but we can do our best to move forward and begin to enjoy life again. This is also our last year at SLA so we thought why not leave on a fun positive note and do something that would benefit the school in a positive way. In doing this capstone we ran into some challenges because although covid has gotten better we are still enduring some complications hence having the talent show. Throughout this process, one of our complications was trying to find a date to have our talent show. After the many complications of finding a date because of covid, we decided that doing this talent show we had to change some things around making this talent show an unusual one. So we turned our show into a virtual talent show allowing students to turn in videos of their talent and we turned those videos into one big video.

Ainyah Pace -Pinckney Capstone

Hey my name is Ainyah Pace and for my senior project I wanted to create a website where people can come and find information on buying a house. This website is mainly for people who fit into the low-income bracket. I wanted to show that there are many resources that are willing to help them find a safer community. Over the past year I have done research finding programs that help people find homes from giving out loans and better housing programs like the town homes. I also interviewed real estate agents and people in my community asking questions about the process of how to buy a house.

My original purpose was to complete an internship at Penn to assist primarily African-American children in learning and playing lacrosse. Furthermore, depending on the activities and when they might need my assistance, I’ve planned to visit Penn once or twice a week to serve as a student coach. By traveling to Penn after school every Tuesday and, if possible, Friday, I’ve used my time and resources to work on the project. Furthermore, I’ve made the most of my tools, including my phone to track progress, my voice to assist in coaching during practices and games, and my collaboration abilities while engaging with the staff and kids. Moreover interacting with children helps me to be able to see the more broad perspective of how the lessons taught to younger children stick with them all throughout their lives and I’m more than happy to be a part of it. Furthermore, connecting with children allows me to have a broader understanding of how the lessons imparted to younger children linger with them throughout their lives, and I’m delighted to be a part of it.

Ricky's Project

My project is a game about focusing on how ADHD affects those in a school setting. Mainly how it is very much misinterpreted as a way to feel quirky and unique. It hinders me daily, however i hope to teach others how it feel sometimes with Tales of Focus

For my senior capstone, I partnered up with Enijah. We wanted to give back to the community but not by just giving them money. We want them to feel good about themselves and be happy. I know there are a lot of people around the world who don’t have a lot. They may not have homes, food, toiletries, and also they may not get exercise and we felt like everyone should be able to get out on their feet and also get something to eat. So me & Enijah decided to have a community walk where anyone could join & also have an event to feed the homeless where they could get some food & also get toothbrushes & toothpaste to clean up.
