I wanted to see if safety could be taught in a way where it was more memorable. A lot of my classmates I now don’t know CPR even if they were taught it beforehand. I thought that maybe the way it was taught could have been the problem so I made my game educational about general safety that I thought an SLA student could use. The outcome was an interesting game that I don’t think would help the problem. After making my capstone, I realize someone only memorizes something if they are motivated to. to that end, if my game motivated people to retain the knowledge maybe the outcome would be different.

Luke Watson Capstone

For my Capstone project, I wanted to focus on the theme of child development. I thought the best way to base a project on this was to build a toy that helps a child develop different important qualities that they need. At first, I was going to build a balance bike because it helps with balance, becoming independent, and hand-eye coordination. I realized I did not have the proper tools in order to complete this project, so I decided to change it into a more simple puzzle that teaches kids pretty much the same things. Basically, the puzzle is a small board that has pegs on it, the kid has to put the correct shape on the correct peg. I thought of it as a suitable replacement for the balance bike because it helps children develop independence, hand-eye coordination, and fine motor skills. It also helps young kids with their shapes, colors, and numbers.

Holden Balcer Capstone

For my capstone project, I’ve decided to make letters to the freshman of next year in a welcome way and give them resources to inform them about mental health. I think providing first-year students with access to websites with strategies to get on top of school work and to stay healthy. Health is affected by sleep and food choices like stressing the importance of breakfast. The kind of health which is overlooked by many, especially students. Having somewhat of a jump start to better habits is very important to me. I want to make people feel welcomed and enforce healthy strategies for their health physically and mentally. Originally I wanted to make care packages to inform people about mental health to anyone. Making those care packages though was a lot more time-consuming but especially more expensive. I got the idea from my advisor to switch to making a letter. Inside the letters, I would have QR codes to a website that holds the information! Instead of just having a website I thought receiving custom letters with unique art and stickers in them would be a lot more fun and incentivize to check out the website. After I got the final draft down the actual process of making the letters was thankfully straightforward. I made 22 for Mr. Cunha’s advisory next year. As I got a gift when I came to SLAB I think this would count as bringing things full circle in a way. It came out great.

Since January I've been teaching a mini-course named Bask In Your Beauty which revolves around sisterhood and helping young girls. We've done multiple mini-projects which are mainly based around self-love and sisterhood amongst not only the girls in the room but women in general.

During the 2021-2022 school year we had the task to create our senior project for the year. From the beginning I had a wrong plan which was to do some sort of community work. Or to help others. My project has had its ups and downs but I can say I stuck out to create something very different and thoughtful. For my project on elf my fist plans was to do a homeless food drive but I knew that that was something that many individuals do. My next project was fixing an out group by the name of a biyb to help encourage young women to be better. As time when on things changed and me and my partner went different way. Finally I choose to work by myself and to go to a women’s shelter and spend the day with them talking and making cake. More so I hosted a baking class for the individuals. It was so fun.The idea that I pulled off working by myself is something that I am extremely proud of, but I knew that I had in me. This project has to be one of my favorites by far of the entire year.. Overall I’m glad that the school year is over and I’m happy to have created such a thoughtful project that I will continue to talk about i hope you guys enjoyed and one day will look at my project as a example to show future students and peers..love anyah see you guys soon lol.

So for my capstone, I worked in the room across from the media lab on the second floor. I just added a few things to it to improve it. To make it feel homier.

Ainyah Pace -Pinckney Capstone

Hey my name is Ainyah Pace and for my senior project I wanted to create a website where people can come and find information on buying a house. This website is mainly for people who fit into the low-income bracket. I wanted to show that there are many resources that are willing to help them find a safer community. Over the past year I have done research finding programs that help people find homes from giving out loans and better housing programs like the town homes. I also interviewed real estate agents and people in my community asking questions about the process of how to buy a house.

For my capstone project, I wanted to make a video detailing content creators and artists. For these 4 years of being in this school, I really got into making content. I do everything from making videos, doing graphic design, making music, etc. I also befriended a lot of people who also do the same thing as me and I have been inspired by them and other creators in our pop culture/social media throughout these 4 years. I wanted to dedicate a video to the people that I follow that help me make content and show them appreciation. People often look over the whole process of what we do and that we dedicated a lot of time to making and releasing content to the world. the process of doing this capstone was very tiresome to say the less. I needed to find a software to make the video, had to look up information on what it means to be a content creator and artist, make a script for my video and get interviews with people for my video. It was a lot of time-consuming and throughout, I had periods of not doing it for a while but I truck through to finish this. I am really passionate about this and I used to push through into making this video. In the end, what I re-learned about this is that making videos is so hard. The product itself is not that long but the process of making it took months for me to finish but in the end, it was worth it. I hope that you enjoy it.

Sanai Browning - Dance Runs the World

Posted by Sanai Browning in Senior Capstone · Burrows-Stone · e1 on Wednesday, May 25, 2022 at 9:30 am

Our project is a sign of many things, including history, sisterhood, black culture, dance, and more. In a mini-course, Salena and I decided to teach black girls dance routines, and we also taught them the history of dance throughout black culture. We also decided to teach the students about the history of dance in short lessons. We have taught two different routines, each with its own style and level of difficulty. We are very proud of our students for being able to learn these routines and show their style and individuality at every rehearsal. I can’t wait to find out what they will do next. They have also come up with a routine on their own, based on the five values we teach them at every rehearsal. We have also had a lot of discussions where we talk about things going on in our community and how they affect our dance lives and lives in general. We are always firm about how we talk about these issues so that our students know they can speak up and use their voices to make a difference in their communities. Change has been brought about in many ways, and dance is one of them. We want our students to feel proud of themselves and care about each other and themselves. As teachers, we have worked hard and made mistakes from time to time, but our students show that the hard work we have done has paid off. We hope that what we taught them has stuck with them.

I create this project in hopes that it could inspire anyone that listens to it to become more active in the activism world and not just follow the trends of society. Want today’s generation and the future generations to know what activism really is and how much it can change society’s opinion on a certain topic. With everything happening in the world today I think we need some real activism that is willing to fight public figures and politicians for the things we need as citizens and as people. My podcast The New Activism will address the many different types of activism and how today’s generation has kinda changed the meaning of activism.
