My work is a self portrait. I decided to do this because to me there is no one better suited to give an accurate representation of you than yourself. To represent myself I decided draw myself in a sort of chibi style because the word “adorable” tends to get thrown around alot when I’m with my friends. There is my life string which is attached to a controller meaning my life will always come back to video games. The 7 point star is the seal of the Cherokee representing me being part Cherokee. The background is a rainbow because I have a colorful personality that can change at any minute. Lastly I myself have a cat tail and ears. This is just to show my love of cats.

The materials used to make this are oil pastel for the color and a charcoal pencil for all the black areas and outlines. I started by using transfer paper to move my drawing from my sketchbook to my paper. After that I went over all the lines in the charcoal. Then I filled in the spaces with various pastels. Then in an attempt to reduce the visibility of white showing through I decided to scrap away the pastel with a transpass leaving the paper with a stained look.

One famous artist that also used oil pastels is Edgar Degas (Link). I think that an important technique to know is the blending of the pastel. If you don’t blend then the paper will end up showing through the paper and drawing attention away from the image itself. This is something I worked on during the creation of my image. I am am most proud of the fact that i was able to turn my something the usually has nothing to do with art into a useful tool. The Only regret I have i that I did the charcoal first because it ended up smearing and making the picture dirty. I really enjoy art and this was the perfect way to communicate and express who I am
