When Amanda Todd was in the 7th grade she met a man in an online chat room who talked her into flashing him her breasts. A year later, the man contacted her on Facebook and asked her to put on a show for him. He threatened to release pictures of her to everyone she knew if she did not do what he said. He knew her address, her name, where she went to school, and who her friends and family members were. Amanda’s pictures were released and went viral. The kids at her school saw the pictures and started to bully and tease her. Amanda became depressed, developed anxiety and began to use drugs and alcohol. Amanda changed schools several times, but it was no use her reputation was ruined.  She reveals her feelings in her video on YouTube, describing how she cried every night and lost all her friends. When Amanda returned home, she tried to commit suicide by drinking bleach, but was saved at the last minute. Finally Amanda moved to a new city, but the bullying continued and she continued to cut herself and attempted suicide. In September 2012 Amanda wrote her story on flashcards and recorded it on YouTube. Amanda’s body was found at her home in British Columbia, Canada on the 10th of October, 2012.

Lack of control: Once Amanda sent the picture she couldn’t control what he did with it because it was now in his possession.

Permanence: Once the man released Amanda’s pictures anyone on social media could have seen them

Immediacy:The amount of hateful messages and threats she got caused her to become depressed and commit suicide

Does Bruno Mars Is Gay

Posted by Jeremiah Grier in Technology- Freshmen · Hertz · e2 on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 1:53 pm

So this guy with bad grammar decided to post on an actual website about how bruno mars is gay. It doesn't really make much sense because how the article is worded and, the guy who made this doesn't  justify his answer but, its basically supposed to be about a rumor going around “about his gay”. One website says that he came out on a radio station on april 1st, april fools day, and that people thought it was real because of the way he talked. Other websites just claim it as a hoax.

Bruno mars has no control over “Bruno mars is gay” , there is no known evidence to show bruno mars reaction to the website or even if he did it at all. This is where lack of control plays, Bruno mars did not create this website of obscene content and most of this stuff isn’t even true. People can believe if bruno mars is gay but  they won't know the truth because they have control over the website and bruno mars does not. Anybody can go on the website and change whatever they please with the guy who made the website’s permission, thus showing that bruno mars has no control on the propaganda used against him. Since then it spread from website to website to twitter to instagram to CNN and so on. Just google #Does Bruno Mars Is Gay.

Bruno mars is gay started after the april fools radio coming out, From April 1st 2012 to November 2nd 2016 and still going this has been a buzzing rumor about if bruno mars really is gay or not. Permanence shows in this because the rumor did not die out in fact it became bigger forging itself into hashtag to meme. Every comedian talks about this undying trend and it's hard to pin point if its real or not because of the poorly worded original website the rumor came from. CNN says that they had him on a radio show in april 1st. This affected bruno mars’ career because if he’s gay or not he has pride in what he identifies as, “I will not go to great lengths to spread this news. The timing is bad, I hadn’t realized it was April Fool’s Day but it’s been pointed out to me and I don’t want to go too public with this. I don’t want it to be disregarded as a joke. My sexuality is no joke to me and it’s come out a little faster than I’d hoped.”

Bruno mars has no control over this website all about bruno mars, the person who made the website can take it down at any time but can never erase the whole thing. #Does Bruno Mars Is Gay  is controversial , you can't erase it because it's a meme and it won't die out, I lasted about 2 years now. This shows Immediacy.

For this assignment, please find a story about an individual's use of social media (it can be a positive or negative use) and explain the story and the effects that this choice had on the individual's life or the life of others. Also, please explain how Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control played into the story and give the individual advice for their online life.

http://www.nydailynews.com/news/national/woman-behind-boston-marathon-bombing-costume-blasts-critics-article-1.1508156

Alicia Ann Lynch, 22,  dressed for Halloween as a Boston Marathon bombing victim and sparked rage throughout twitter. She says her family has been subjected to death threats and was fired from her job. Alicia’s personal information were leaked like her driver’s license and even her family’s address in Fairgrove, Mich. After death threats toward her parents and best friend Lynch stated “ She didn’t know what I was doing. My family didn’t know what I was doing. I don’t live with them. And they’re all getting dragged into this for something I did.”. Alicia apologized for her offensive costume“What I did may have been wrong, but is it truly right to wish harm upon someone and say that you’re doing it for the victims?” she said. “As being a part of a tragic event I never would ever wish what had happened to me upon someone else, as I can say most people wouldn’t wish death upon someone to ‘make it right.”

Immediacy : As soon as she posted her costume it immediately got negative feedback.

Permanence: After she posted it whether she deleted it or not it was still on the internet from people posting it on their social media.

Lack of control: After she posted it she lost all control of the picture. She couldn’t control the death threats toward her friends and family. She couldn’t control where the picture ended up or the comments.

Advice: Be more considerate of others and be mindful of what you wear and post. Maybe next time you could wear a costume that doesn’t offend others and doesn’t touch on sensitive subject such as the Boston Marathon bombing.

Throughout the quarter, we have been exploring the decisions that we make when it comes to what we post online as well as analyzing the decisions of others.

For this assignment, please find a story about an individual's use of social media (it can be a positive or negative use) and explain the story and the effects that this choice had on the individual's life or the life of others. Also, please explain how Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control played into the story and give the individual advice for their online life.

You will then write a blog post containing the information above and a link to at least one article about the story.

PLEASE SUBMIT THE LINK TO YOUR BLOG POST TO THIS ASSIGNMENT

1. The former-Chipotle employee who dissed his wages in a tweet, got fired, sued Chipotle and won.

Last year, 38-year-old war veteran James Kennedy took to Twitter to complain about the low wages Chipotle paid to its crew members following a free food promotion.

His tweet read: "@ChipotleTweets, nothing is free, only cheap #labor. Crew members make only $8.50hr how much is that steak bowl really?"

Kennedy later deleted his tweet after a supervisor showed him the company's social-media policy, which states that an employee cannot make "disparaging, false" statements about Chipotle publicly. Following another incident involving his asking for shift breaks, he was let go.

However, the buck didn't stop there. Kennedy took Chipotle to court for his wrongful termination -- and won.

The court found in favor of Kennedy and stated that Chipotle's social-media policy violated federal labor laws and ordered the casual dining restaurant chain to rehire Kennedy and pay him lost wages. The court-case victor, who now has a job with American Airlines and has no plans returning to Chipotle, says that he will accept his lost wages in the form of Chipotle food vouchers. (Now that's customer loyalty.)

In this story Chipotle worker said some not mean things but he said some things about the Chipotle payment. He posted,"@ChipotleTweets, nothing is free, only cheap #labor. Crew members make only $8.50hr how much is that steak bowl really? The employee later deleted the tweet after a supervisor showed him the social media company policy. Following another incident involving his asking for shift breaks, he was let go. Kennedy took Chipotle let to court and sued them for wrongfully terminating him. Luckily the court was in favor of Mister James Kennedy and stated,K  Chipotle's social-media policy violated federal labor laws and ordered the casual dining restaurant chain to rehire Kennedy and pay him lost wages. After that situation James Kennedy no longer has a job at Chipotle but now has This show sign of just about all three categories (Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control), mostly shows Immediacy because in the article unknowingly he posted a tweet about the restaurant and was not thinking about the consequences that might actually occur. Once informed he immediately deleted the tweet. Once on the internet it is never really gone because it leave residue when deleted, where you can always find it. I tell you that because it shows Permanence and how nothing is completely 100% deleted from the internet. It was Lack of control because once it happen he had no idea it would turn out this well. He basically got paid all the wages he was owed, won the court against Chipotle and got a great paying job at American Airlines. All three thing can either really help someone out in life on the internet or really punish somebody one the internet.

Kim Kardashian Paris Robbery

Posted by Chanelle Holliday in Technology- Freshmen · Hertz · e2 on Thursday, November 3, 2016 at 9:09 pm

Reality TV star Kim Kardashian was recently robbed at her hotel in Paris.  Sources say five men dressed as police officers showed up to her hotel in Paris at 2:00 in the morning.  She was held up at gunpoint.  The men allegedly covered her mouth with duct tape, tied her hands and feet together and threw her in the bathtub.  According to Kim’s accusations the men only spoke french.  The suspects ended up getting away with 11 million dollars worth of jewelry including a 4 million dollar ring Kim’s husband had just bought her.  Shortly after the robbery police checked nearby security cameras which showed the men fleeing the scene.  Three men were on bicycles while the other two were on foot.  A lot of people are blaming the robbery on Kim because she is constantly over sharing information on social media.  Kim flaunted her ring and jewelry on Snapchat.  Kim is also constantly posting her location on social media. In fact hours before the robbery Kim posted a video showing her ring and that she was alone in her hotel room.  Kim’s decisions to constantly overshare on social media has obviously landed her in a messy situation.  Since the robbery Kim hasn’t been active on social media.  Kim’s family says that,” It’s incredibly traumatic what happened to her, but our family is super close and great and we’ll get through it together “.  Lack of control played a part in this story because once Kim posted her location and flaunted her jewelry to her 84 million followers it was up for anybody to see. Anybody could use the pictures, videos , and information any they wanted too. As soon as Kim pressed the post button she immediately lost control of it. Sadly lack of control ended her up in a traumatic situation.  Permanence plays a role in Kim’s story because anything that she post is permanently in the public eye and up for anybody to view.  Even if Kim were to delete a picture or video it’s likely that somebody took a screenshot or saved it to their phone somehow.  Immediacy also plays a role in Kim’s story because as soon as she posted it anybody could immediately do whatever that wanted with it or put it wherever they wanted to.  Permanence, Lack of control, and immediacy all played a role in Kim’s story.  Her situation could have been easily avoided if she didn’t overshare on social media.

Cole Rooney: Think before you post

On August 3, 2013 a girl from Lutterworth, Leicestershire, England named Hannah Smith, was found dead in her room by her older sister. Weeks ‘].before her death she was said to be being cyber bullied on the internet. People were telling her to drink bleach and cut herself. Days after she died her older sister was getting hate on facebook making fun of Hannah Smith’s death and also blamed her dad for bad parenting.

This had a bad effect on Hannah’s family because they were grieving over her and received a lot of hate. Immediacy played when they kept telling her to cut herself and drink bleach all the time. Lack of control is when her family was still getting hate after she died.

Instead of taking what people say on the internet to heart she could ignore it. Another thing she could do would be to talk to someone about. Lastly, she should’ve avoided asking questions to random people on the internet because people often tell others very horrific things over the internet. For example, kill yourself, or drink bleach. Statements like this have been directed at me before but I never take it to heart because I know that is to be expected of the internet.

Amanda Todd Crucial Story

Posted by Cristy Perez in Technology- Freshmen · Hertz · e2 on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 8:52 pm

In this article, it’s a story about a girl in the 7th grade who was name Amanda Todd, who commit suicide from being blackmailed from a 36 year old dutch man. She was in a webcam watch by random strangers and she decided to flash to the webcam. An account name “Tyler Boo” decided to screenshot her flashing to the webcam. Tyler boo started to threatened her saying that if she doesn’t send him more pictures of her, he will expose those pictures to every person she knows and everyone in the world would see it.  Amanda refused to send him more pictures of her, so Tyler boo uploaded the pictures on a porn website and send the link to every Facebook friend she had. The next day when Amanda went to school she was know as the “girl in the picture”. She was slut shame and embarrassed. It was leading her to depression and anxiety. Later on Tyler boo went on and made a new fake Facebook page calling himself Austin Collins and connected to all of her new friends from her new school to make it seem like he went to Amanda’s school, the profile picture was of her flashing. She thought of an idea so she grab a black marker and white paper and made a video of her explaining her story on the paper and then posted it on YouTube, The whole world saw the video. On October 10th Amanda decided to take her life away in her mother’s house alone.

Immediacy: The lack of threats she got from the blackmailer cause her to have depression and suicide

Permanence: Well the pictures that Tyler boo had of Amanda he posted them everywhere and now the whole world can see them until today

Lack of Control: it led to the point where Amanda had no one to talk to so she took away her life since she was getting threat's by the same person.

If I would to give advice to Amanda and everyone else is to speak up and report it! Don’t take your life away, there are other solutions that can be handled in a different way.

The woman who committed suicide after being accused

The Article  is about Sushma Goswami, She is a 24 years old Indian Graduated girl, when   she completed her graduation she Opened a Facebook account where she has more than thousand of followers. Now she spends her most of the time on social networking site. and the site quickly turned into an addiction as she started spending hours in front of her computer.  Which also affected her younger brother he also took a liking for it.  Spending time on social networking site also make them not to focus on their studies. And that's why they both raised the ire of their parents for neglecting their daily chores while doing little else beyond spending time online. In February 2014 Sushma became  so frustrated of her parent's objection for using social media and that's why she committed  suicide by hanging herself from a ceiling fan.

The advice that I have for Sushma is that She shouldn’t  committed suicide because suicide never can be the solution of a problem. Bravely  and patiently facing the problem and tried to  find the solution of the problem can be the solution.

The Immediacy played into this article because Sushma’s  interest on social media causes  her to committed suicide.

Permanence played into this article because even though she past away but her Facebook ID will still be there because she didn’t delete her account.

Lack of control also played into this article  because now people can get her information, photos, status etc from her account because now she don’t have any control of it.

Think Before You Post

Posted by Angie Cordoba in Technology- Freshmen · Hertz · e2 on Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at 10:30 am

Source of my story :http://puresight.com/Real-Life-Stories/phoebe-prince.html

My story is on this girl named Phoebe. One day she got asked to a school dance by a senior, and she accepted his offer. Some girls got jealous because she was asked by a football senior. They started to cyber bully her and say horrible things to her. So the night before her winter dance she decided to hang herself.

The immediacy in this story is that they kept calling her names on social media and they wouldn't stop. This story permanence is that everything that they said on social media, was still on social media so anyone could see what was going on and agree or even disagree. Finally her lack of control was that their was no way for her to take any of it down because she didn't have control of their messages and she couldn't stop it. The only thing that came to her mind of stopping it was death.

I believe that if I was Phoebe I wouldn't have killed myself because of death. I wouldn't think that that's a way to solve anything, I would of informed an adult that can help me with this situation. If that didn't work I would ask them to stop. And if that didn't work either I would talk to someone who would be able to shut down the whole website. I watched a movie about a girl getting cyber bullied and she attempted to kill herself but luckily her friend stopped her and at the end of the story the people who where bullying her had left her alone after she got help. To me the moral of the story is to not kill yourself because people say rude things because anything that you do people will hate on you, so be yourself and have fun with your life.
