The Story of Mike Bacsik

Posted by Antwann Aubrey in Technology- Freshmen · Hertz · e2 on Monday, November 7, 2016 at 3:04 pm

A former baseball player was fired for racist tweet about mexicans his name was Mike Bacsik he was fired from his position on the team and also was suspended from the radio station that hired him but soon was canned from his position mike  was fired from both his jobs on the radio and on the field immediacy played a role in this situation once the tweet was out he lost everything he had.

Immediacy once he made the post about mexicans it was there for the world there was no hiding it

Permanence the tweet was there everyone saw it all his followers saw his post

Lack of Control  people can screenshot it and send it to everyone thats what happen with mike his bosses got the tweet and he was fired

The advice I would give him is dont tweet something you dont want anyone to see be careful about what you post online

Jessica Longan

Jessica Logan

Jessica Logan got cruelly teased by other girls at her high school after her boyfriend broke up with her and sent out all of her private pictures and messages. After a while her grades dropped and she started skipping school. But when she did come to school she hid in the bathroom. When Jessica was interviewed on a cincinnati TV show

She said,¨I just want to make sure no one else will have to go through this again.¨

Shortly after she went to a funeral of a boy who committed suicide she killed herself

Immediacy

She did not  wait until they were really close to post naked pictures of herself to her boyfriend

Lack of control

She texted pictures of herself nude to anybody. She did not thought about the consequences first.

Permanence

She took nude pictures of herself without thinking about who could see them.

My Advice

My advice for Jessica is for her not to ever post nude pictures of herself to anybody.

You never know who you can trust. One day you can be boyfriend and girlfriend and another day you can be mortal enemies.

Think Before You Post Essay

Posted by Victor Negron in Technology- Freshmen · Hertz · e2 on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 11:22 pm

An example of Thinking Before You Post, is IHOP posting a Sexist joke towards their food. IHOP always makes edgy jokes towards their food, but one post took it one step too far, to their 242,000 followers. The tweet said, ¨Flat, but has a GREAT personality¨. The community took this the wrong way, and starting to call IHOP, and complain about this inappropriate tweet. IHOP ended up apologizing about the tweet, but the damage had already been done. This tweet had gotten people upset, over a single tweet which can get to a lot of people. It is also stated in the website (socialmediaweek.org) “ Tying your product to any part of the body is ill-advised, especially when itś highly offensive¨. Social media can cause many offensive comments to you, or anyone else. You would have to be careful of what you're posting, and commenting on. It can cause many doubts, and multiple opinions about what you are doing. Lack of control was played here by IHOP not able to apologize towards their followers, but having the damage already done, and people not taking the apology seriously. You can’t really say sorry to something that you already gave multiple people a upset perspective about. Lack of control played a part in this, and IHOP followers took this the wrong way.

Be Conscious, Think Before you Post!

In this article it states a woman posted a tweet on Twitter and have gotten fired from her job at Cisco a utility store, the bad thing is that she didnt even start the job yet,she just got accepted for the job and never started. The negative about this post is that she said ¨I need the money but I will be hating the job¨,this brought out attention and Cisco managers have seen the tweet and denied her to work for them. This shows that you have to watch what you post or say on social media because most likely everyone can see it.This kind of thing can happen to anyone since everyone can access social media, using social media people tend to not control them self when theyre posting. This woman had a choice to post this or just not talk about it and deal with the amount of work, this shows to be conscious and think before you post.My advice is to think before you post and think about the permanace of your post and how easy it is to be kept by a screenshot. This should give you lesson to think of in your life before you post something to the internet.

Chipotle Scandal

Posted by Isaac Wooten in Technology- Freshmen · Hertz · e2 on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 2:44 pm

Isaac Wooten

In this story Chipotle worker named James Kennedy didn’t say anything mean, but he said some things about the Chipotle wages being too low. He posted,"@ChipotleTweets, nothing is free, only cheap #labor. Crew members make only $8.50hr how much is that steak bowl really?” After a supervisor showed him the social media policy, he immediately deleted the post. He was fired after other complaints. Kennedy sued Chipotle  for wrongfully firing him. Luckily the court was on the side of Kennedy. After that situation James Kennedy he didn’t have a job at Chipotle but now has a job at American Airlines. This shows signs of just about all three categories (Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control), mostly shows Immediacy because in the article unknowingly he posted a tweet about the restaurant and was not thinking about the consequences that might actually occur which led to his boss finding out rather quickly. Once informed he immediately deleted the tweet. Once on the internet it is never really gone because it leave residue when deleted, where you can always find it. I tell you that because it shows Permanence and how nothing is completely 100% deleted from the internet. It was Lack of control because once it happen he had no idea it would turn out this well. He basically got paid all the wages he was owed, won the court against Chipotle and got a great paying job at American Airlines. All three thing can either really help someone out in life on the internet or really punish somebody one the internet. All I can say is he needs to be a lot more careful with what he posts on the internet and learn to keep certain thing to themselves. This time it worked out for him but for most of the time it won’t end up like that.

In this article an officer was suspended without pay for using the internet negatively. He was posting vine videos of him stealing cocaine from evidence room as a joke. He is a cop from Buffalo, New York named Richard Hy. He was lucky he kept his job (so far). His account on vine was called “angry cops”. Richard Hy broke a policy when wearing his uniform in some of the videos. In the videos he pretends he is a shot suspect, taking cocaine from evidence locker , and also makes fun of people who are over dose at a drug court etc. When he got in trouble he made a statement on vine saying “I'm blowing up on the news right now I guess Cops can't be funny or have a life outside of being emotionless robots”. Lack of Control played a role in this article because Richard Hy wasn’t able to control who and want was able to access it. Richard Hy was not thinking before posting, he didn’t notice that the police department and other cops were going to see it. In his videos he was being very immature when pretending to be someone. Richard Hy thought many of the videos were funny but other people it was very disturbing and offensive. Permanence played a role in Richard Hy situation because everything he posted is now permanent and shared. Millions of people now so it and shared it and showing others. Even though if he deleted it’s still out there because he can’t delete it off the internet. Immediacy also played a role in his situation because his videos went viral fast. Many people shared , and liked his videos making other people see it and many other officers.

Think About What You Post

Posted by Kasai Lamartiniere in Technology- Freshmen · Hertz · e2 on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 2:26 pm

Throughout the quarter, we have been exploring the decisions that we make when it comes to what we post online as well as analyzing the decisions of others.

For this assignment, please find a story about an individual's use of social media (it can be a positive or negative use) and explain the story and the effects that this choice had on the individual's life or the life of others. Also, please explain how Immediacy, Permanence and Lack of Control played into the story and give the individual advice for their online life.

You will then write a blog post containing the information above and a link to at least one article about the story.

Mother of cyber bullying victim pens heartbreaking open letter in response to his suicide

In this story a during April 27, 2016  an innocent seventeen year old boy named

Felix Alexander commits suicide out of grief and sorrow after being maliciously mocked

over social media by people who didn’t even know him. This abuse caused Felix to suffer

extreme depression and things didn’t get any better while he was at school either. While at

school he was constantly harassed and abused by other students, even his own fellow

and was even declared to be the most hated kid in the whole school despite his teachers saying he was smart kind and caring. Felix on the other hand thought of himself as a looser and wimp with no guts or self esteem. He  eventually moved to another school only to end up with people who saw his social media to harass and bully him as well. After this his depression started to grow more and more into a mental breakdown until he eventually snapped and decided to take away his own life leaving not only him to die in sadness and grief but also to leave his mother in sadness and grief especially after attending his funeral. In this story you can tell that Felix’s immediacy made him easily vulnerable to cyberbullying. By sharing information with everyone over the internet people were easily able to find flaws and weaknesses within him and were thus able to keep on using the weaknesses against him until he cracked. This caused him to be exposed and bullied by students, classmates and even people who barely even knew him enough to judge him. As for what Felix was being mocked about about, it was a video game. On Ithttp://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article-3823251/It-began-unkindness-advent-social-media-overwhelming-Mother-s-heartbreaking-letter-bullies-drove-son-kill-not-allowed-play-Call-Duty.html it was said that Felix posted on his Social Media that his mom wouldn’t let him play a violent video game called “Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2”. This however caused everyone on his social media to maliciously mock him by calling him names such as a loser and a wimp despite him not having any control over what he was allowed to play. Not only that but he eventually had no self control in his own media either. After only a few people found out about the video game he wasn’t allowed to play word quickly got out to dozens, hundreds and eventually even thousands of people and what's worse was that there was nothing he could do to prevent or escape the undeserving consequences he got for this. He was completely trapped in a never ending realm of permanence. No matter where Felix went to forget about and escape his cruel past there were always people who knew about his media and brought up the whole situation again. He had lost complete control over his internet life and Social life because of posting something on the internet that he could never take back or remove especially when over thousands of people found out. The worst part though is that he went through all of this pain and suffering all because of a video game. He was given cruelty just because his parents were being responsible and not letting him play anything violent. This story is one of the main examples about the danger of Social media. When you post something on Social Media it will always stay their and spread. Also, when posting something even as small and harmless as a videogame there will always be people who will try to find a way to use something as small and harmless as that to make you think less of yourself and they'll always keep on trying push you more and more until you end up making the same mistake Felix made and sometimes it’s only when that person results to such a hasty action when  people mocking them finally realize the horrible mistake they have made only for it to be too late.

Jessica Logan

The article i am doing is about a girl named Jessica Logan, a 18 year old girl who went to Sycamore High School. Jessica sent nudes to her boyfriend, when they broke up he sent her nudes to everyone. The high school girls began to harass Jessica and calling her names. Jessica should've thought about the consequences of her sexting to her boyfriend. Immediacy, Permanence, and Lack of Control played in this story by the Permanence of the photo that Jessica sent to her ex-boyfriend.Lack of Control that Jessica had of the photo and the people who saw the photo. The Immediacy is when she sent the photo to her boyfriend and realizing that she could not control where it was gonna go.

DiGiorno uses Domestic Violence to Sell Pizza

Posted by Qualee Bentley in Technology- Freshmen · Hertz · e2 on Friday, November 4, 2016 at 2:21 pm

Qualee Bentley

DiGiorno Pizza went to Twitter to promote their pizza using the hashtag #WhyIStayed. What they didn’t know was that the hashtag was used for thousands of women opening up about their abusive relationships. DiGiorno quickly realized that they made a mistake and took it down but it was too late, this shows lack of control and permanence. They began to explain how they didn’t check and see what the hashtag represented and started to apologize to everyone that saw it. This shows how immediacy played into their situation.

My advice for DiGiorno Pizza is to check before you post. You should always make sure that your post doesn’t contain offensive material. Also, make sure to check what the hashtag represents before you use it.http://time.com/3308861/digiorno-social-media-pizza/

West Stream

Due: November 4,2016

This whole quarter we learn about how to only use the Internet positively because if you post something that you will regret it may affect your life drastically. So think before you post anything. Here is a prime example. This girl named Audrie who is 15 years old suffered cyberbullying with the teenagers she knew. It all happened the month of September in 2012. Audrie was drinking underage and was drinking so much she fell unconscious. Her friends she was with ended up raping her and taking pictures of her. The the teenagers all went to the same school which was Saratoga High School. After taking all the pictures of the girl getting raped and unconscious they ended up posting it on the Internet. Eight days after the situation Audrie went through hell because she had mental and physical fear. She ended up killing herself to escape the damage and harm being continued on her mentally and physically. Audrie never told her parents. And now the teenagers are charged for Audrie’s death but it won’t bring her back but justice needs to be serve. In this situation the permanency is that she is dead and someone can probably look up the pictures the teenagers took of Audrie. The lack of control is that first Audrie was drinking so much that she fell unconscious and she was underage drinking and when the teenagers rapid her and took pictures they knew it was wrong but they thought it was a joke until she ended up killing herself. The immediacy is that once she was raped the three boys instantly posted the pictures online where everyone can see it. But when they went to court the judge used the pictures as evidence against them. The three boys never have been in serious serious trouble where they are dealing with the law but they ended up in the juvenile hall. After Audrie hung herself she was admitted to the hospital on life support but didn't end up surviving. Now the three boys that did all this has to deal with this the rest of their lives and have to sleep everyday with this extreme situation on their mind. And Audrie family has to deal with this everyday that a family member has died and they could not help her with this situation.
