Dim Controller

Posted by Labaron Gunter in PHYSICS 1 - Gray - E on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 9:17 am

So we picked to add this to a controller because we both play video games and that’s what we like. We both use the same controller when we play. Also it’s one of our favorite hobbys to do even at school. So, that is why we used a controller for our project.

Physics Jada and ShaiAnn

Posted by Jadaline Torres in PHYSICS 1 - Gray - E on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 9:12 am

For the 4th quarter benchmark, ShaiAnn and I decided to light up a phone case. The phone case was simple and small and it represented our phones which played a role in our everyday lives. We use our phones everyday and the different apps we use on it express us both as individuals.

My project will consist of lighting up a music note. Since I am going to a music school next year and I like to sing, I want something to take with me. I enjoy singing and I have been singing for a while and I have been able to show something I like while using physics. I am also going to be moving soon and I would like to take something with me while I go to be put in my new room. The bulbs in the sculpture represent the bright attitude I should take with me wherever I go. This will also be a piece of memorabilia from Sla @ Beeber since I won’t be here next year.

Keith & Bahiyah Corbin

My partner and I chose a box because it represents recycling, and recycling is important to us because it helps keep the earth clean. Also we would be able to use it again in the future. This project changed our perspective as looking at electricity in a different way.

Art project

Posted by Indigo Burton in PHYSICS 1 - Gray - E on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 9:05 am

I chose the shoe as my project because one of my all my favorite things to do is collect shoes. I love jordans nikes and adidas the most. This is one of the first basketball shoes i’ve ever had and I never scuffed them because I was scared to.

I chose wire set up I did because in the end it would have the best look on the shoe and it would still be bright. I chose 5 bulbs on each lace side then a wire to connect both ends so they would be bright. I twisted all the wires to let the current flow.

Electric Art Project

Posted by Alex Bonner in PHYSICS 1 - Gray - E on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 9:03 am

Alex: I picked a game controller because it represents who I am. I’m a kid who loves to play games on his free time. I meet great gaming companies, I strengthen my relations with my real life friends. We can play together, all day and night even when we are far apart. We can a lots of fun with great competitions and co ops mode, that can make a whole weekend feel like a day.

Jailyn: I wanted to do a game controller because, I've loved to play games since I was super little I've always loved playing video games. My love for video games grew stronger as I got older and ended up getting me in trouble with my mom a few times. Now a days I don't play games as much as I used to since I am more focused on school and sports but my love for them will never burn out.

Emmy and Rayna's Project

Posted by Mariano Mattei in PHYSICS 1 - Gray - E on Tuesday, June 7, 2016 at 8:59 am

Rayna and I chose to do this project on a phone case because our phones are important to us, so we chose something that could protect them. Since both of our favorite colors are blue, we picked a blue phone case. We also thought that it would be interesting to try to light up a phone case, so we tried to put it to the test.

The Light Up Shoe

I choose to do a shoe as my sculpture. I choose to do a shoe because I like running, and this is a running shoe. I also wear shoes everyday, so I figured it would be a good thing to do as a sculpture. Although this isn’t a basketball shoe I also have a lot of basketball shoes, and basketball is one of my favorite sports. I thought it would look really cool to put lights on a shoe to, and it does because you could walk in the dark and still see your shoe light up, so I thought that was cool. That is why I choose to use a shoe as my sculpture.

Electric Art Project

I chose this bear because this is my childhood stuffed animal. His name is Freny. I got him from Boyd’s Bears outside of Philadelphia. I’ve had him since I was five. Freny has gotten me through a lot and has been through a lot himself. His frayed feet are proof of this. By putting lights around his ears and legs, I’m returning the life he gave to me long ago.

Physics with Adults

Newton’s Laws of Motion
  • Newton’s First Law: Every object moves in a straight line unless another force is applied

  • We are going to focus on Newton's laws and forces with Septa.

What exactly is a System Schema? For those who may not know what a system schema is, it is an outline or diagram showing how objects interact with the system.
What is a free body diagram? A free body diagram are diagrams used to show all the forces acting upon an object.
Screenshot 2015-12-08 at 8.58.27 AM.png
The system schema above, shows our scenario and how the systems are interacting with the objects/people. As seen above, Gravity is a force for all 4 objects. Human, handle, Earth, and the actual septa bus. A human standing on the bus while the bus is in place, starting from a complete stop, turning a right corner, turning a left corner, and coming back to a complete stop.

Screenshot 2015-12-09 at 10.00.53 AM.png Screenshot 2015-12-09 at 10.20.09 AM.png

This free body diagram and system schema above are both showings, of the exact same scenario. This is what it'll looks like before the bus is moving. A human standing on the bus, no motion is happening, the bus has not yet moved. There are only two forces in our system schema and free body diagram. Force Gravity which is pushing the person up, and force Normal is allowing the person to NOT go through the bus.
Screenshot 2015-12-09 at 10.02.56 AM.png
Here our system schema and free body diagram looks a bit different. Now the bus has made a left turn. When the bus is turning left, and you hold onto the handle, your body tends to move to the right(the opposite direction in which the bus is turning), because of force Tension. Again, we have force Gravity pushing the person up, and the force Normal allowing the person to NOT go through the bus.

Screenshot 2015-12-09 at 10.09.40 AM.png
Here we have the bus making a RIGHT turn. When making a right turn, just like the left turn free body diagram, you would go opposite of the way the bus is turning. By pulling on the handle force Tension is moving left. Again like in all free body diagrams, force Gravity is pushing up, and force Normal is pulling up.

The bus is coming back to a complete stop.
Screenshot 2015-12-09 at 10.00.53 AM.png
The bus makes a complete stop, so there is no more tension and or any other forces being applied. Gravity is holding the person up, and for Normal is allowing the person not to go through the bus.

So.. Think? Without gravity being on every free body diagram, the person would just float up, and without force normal also being on every free body diagram the person would just go through the bus.
Keep this in mind.....
You're a human on a moving septa bus, and you decide to either walk to the front or to the back of a septa bus.
This system schema is showing how our objects are interacting with our systems. We have 3 different forces involved with our system schema which means there will be 3 different forces in our free body diagram.
Screenshot 2015-12-10 at 11.30.18 AM.png Screenshot 2015-12-10 at 11.30.24 AM.png
The free body diagram to the right shows if the person were to walk to the front of the bus, when walking to the front of the bus, force Friction will force you to the back of the bus with a pull.
The free body diagram to the right shows, force Friction forcing you to the right. This shows when walking to the back of the bus, which means you are being forced to the front of the bus with a pull.
