Sole sanders landslides, mudslides

Posted by Sole Sanders in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · C on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 9:47 pm

  1. How do the earth systems affect each other? Because all earth systems work together when one system happens, it triggers an effect for another thing that happened. It’s like a cycle. Like when mudslides happen, you can create a ripple in effect that can go all way down to the ocean cracking in the ocean floor releases saltwater into freshwater.
  2. How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters? Understanding the environmental science of natural disasters can help prevent natural disasters, because when you know what to look out for, and the signs of the signals, you could be better prepared, and you can react better to when these natural disasters happen while you cannot prevent natural disasters we can do a better job at helping the Distany, the disasters that comes with it, and already have the resources that are needed to combat the disaster to have less destruction to buildings and properties and less deaths.
  3. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future? Efforts we can make a society to create a sustainable future are building structure architectures recycling, saving resources, clean energy, rather than greenhouse, gases, stop over producing food items like meats and dairy products. Try to move everything to electricity rather than gases make better living conditions for the animals that we share the planet with.

Sanaa, Drought

Posted by Sanaa Carter in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · C on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 8:20 pm

In any circumstance, Earth systems interact with one another. “Volcanoes (geosphere events) may, for example, spew a high quantity of hot lava (geosphere), causing mountain glaciers (hydrosphere) to melt. Mudflows and floods (geosphere) can occur downstream of volcanoes, inundating streamside settlements (biosphere).” So earth systems are using the domino affect. Once one is affected they all are.Understanding environmental science in handling natural disasters is important because It can help us learn why they happen and also what is happening. The efforts we can make to create a sustainable future is by recycling, using less electric and buying the organic version of whatever you’re using if you can.

Joseph Earthquakes

How do earth systems affect each other

Energy fluxes from the earth’s systems, such as rain and water, have an impact on one another.

How can understanding environmental science aid in handling a natural disaster

It will help us understand why the natural disaster occurred and what what we should do to handle

What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future Be cautious while doing things that could trigger natural disasters, and try to stay away from those that could

Overall I enjoyed doing this project, it was interesting to learn about how earthquakes are formed

a. How do the earth’s systems affect each other?

When it comes to the earth’s systems affecting each other during a mudslide the geosphere is the most affected. The vibrations from a mudslide shift the surface of the ground and disrupt the slope in the ground.

b. How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters?

The understanding of environmental science can help us prepare for natural disasters, help us repair what was destroyed in the land, and also help us know why the natural disaster occurred. Environmental science also helps us learn how human interactions affect the earth as a whole.

c. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future?

In terms of prevention of mudslides we can stop construction and fracking that disrupts the earth’s ground and slope to prevent any major movement in the group and soils.

d. Your reaction to your findings and overall project

I wasn’t shocked about what I learned, but I was more intrigued about what I learned about mudslides, especially how fast they happen. I was a little bit surprised at the effect mudslides have on the environment, such as disruption of homes, forests, etc.

Treymir Tornado Natural Disaster

Posted by Treymir Foreman in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · C on Friday, October 7, 2022 at 3:35 pm

  1. When a severe thunderstorm happens, (rotating supercell), it could potentially cause a flood. (hydrosphere) Humid air rises through the atmosphere into the thunderclouds, and the cool air and heavy rain starts rotating causing a tornado. If a tornado extends, it could be a hazard to the biosphere.
  2. Having an understanding of environmental science can help have an idea on what can be effected from a natural disaster.
  3. There isn’t much we can do considering the fact that severe storms causes tornados. That can’t really be prevented.

Overall, I enjoyed working on this project. It was well structured, and we all did a fair amount of work. I never knew exactly what caused a tornado so that was interesting to find out.

1.))How do the earth's systems affect each other? The earth's systems affect each other in many different ways. They all work together which causes the natural disasters we have, climate change, and affects organisms all over the earth. What we consider to be the circle of life 2.)How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters? Finding answers to questions about what to do or how to get ready for a natural disaster will be easier. Helping to fund these types of disasters which happening in our community 3.)What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future? Natural Disasters are something that we can not really control as humans. But we can control some of the climate change in our world. Driving cars, smoking, and any form of chemical going into the air.

  1. How do the earth’s systems affect each other?

the earth’s systems affect each other in many ways because the earth has four subsystems they are called, hydrosphere, atmosphere, and geosphere, these subsystems interact with each other and the biosphere, and they work together to influence the climate of the piles of earth.

  1. How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters?

I will teach us how to avoid and handle natural disasters because If something bad happens to one it probably affects another one in a bad way understanding environmental science aid can help us avoid natural disasters and how we can stop them.

  1. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future?

avoided everything that cost natural disasters and be careful about what we do so we don’t cost a natural disasters

Nazeerah McGeorge -Tornado

Atmosphere: The cool air along with heavy rain then forms spinning air currents inside the cloud which could drop down from the clouds forming a tornado.

Geosphere: These strong winds can pick up rocks affecting the geosphere

Biosphere: Strong winds can pick up rocks and can injure the biosphere such as humans, animals, and plants.

Hydrosphere: Tornadoes, which are violently rotating columns of air extending from the bottom of a severe thunderstorm, have very little impact on the hydrosphere. Tornadoes are small in both their areal coverage and in their duration, usually lasting about 10 minutes on average.

Understanding what causes tornadoes and understanding how they can affect the environment allows you to be able to react properly if ever in a situation where you need to be prepared for a tornado. In order to create a sustainable future, changes in human behavior would definitely have to happen to be as though, climate and global warming are greatly impacting the planet and the earth’s system cycles.

Earth systems sort of work as a chain reaction, when something happens In the earth’s atmosphere it affects everything else. For example hydrosphere, biosphere, atmosphere, and geosphere are all spheres that can be helpful and harmful to the environment. For example, when rain falls from the clouds in the atmosphere, that rain can be used to form streams and rivers that provide drinking water for wildlife and humans. An understanding of environmental science can aid in handling natural disasters because the more you understand the better chance you have of preventing catastrophic effects. For example, this could be things like knowing where to go when natural disasters occur and knowing the steps to take when they do happen. It is important that we as humans know these events can occur at any given moment, so having an understanding of what you are dealing with is important. The best way that we can move forward and create a sustainable future in dealing with natural disasters is to make sure that we are taking care of the environment. I feel like our group did a really good job of explaining our project and giving a visual representation of our project.

Some effort we can make to create a sustainable future is to understand the issues we’re having now. One good example is global warming because all the factories and cars we’re using release carbon dioxide into the atmosphere which in turn raises the temperature and has many harmful effects on us. A thing I was surprised to learn during our project is that when forest fires are started (by humans and lightning) it also releases carbon dioxide into the atmosphere as well. One thing we can do in order to make a sustainable future for us all is to practice safe campfire practices and maybe switch to electric cars so we can lower temperatures caused by climate change.
