Natural disasters and Earths systems

Posted by Joshua Henderson-Long in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · E on Tuesday, October 5, 2021 at 8:31 pm

Earth's systems work together in many different ways. The atmosphere and hydrosphere can change the shape of objects in the geosphere, the biosphere can change the look of the geosphere and hydrosphere in both positive and negative ways, etc. Specifically, when talking about a tsunami there are three systems that interact with more of an impact than the others. Tsunamis which are included in the hydrosphere collide with cities that lay closer to the water and tend to harm people in the process. Cities are part of the geosphere and when the tsunami touches land it comes with the destruction of wherever it hits due to the force and water. As homes are destroyed people that are part of the biosphere can also get caught in the tsunami. Understanding environmental science can help us predict what type of impact the natural disaster will have on the area and assist us in preparing so there is not as much collateral. We can try to understand greenhouse gasses more and try to reverse the effects. Learn more about the starting signs of a natural disaster to get a more accurate location and direction.

1. How do the earth systems affect one another? They affect each other in a balanced way, what I mean by this is they all benefit and depend on each other. 2. How can understanding environmental science help when dealing with natural disasters? This can be beneficial to someone in these cases because they may understand the severity of the situation or know how to help themselves in the best way. 3. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future? We can start by trying to understand what things we put out that affect the balance of life and then strategies ways to better our way of life. Reflection: I learned a lot of interesting things about volcanoes that I didn't know. I thought that this was a really good project because it allowed us to not only research be we were able to take our findings and reflect on them in ways that helped us better understand how volcanoes work.

1. How do the earth systems affect each other? Earth systems affect each other because each sphere works together to create a cycle. For example the atmosphere brings rainwater bak to the hydrosphere. 2. How can an understanding of environmental science aid in handling natural disasters? An understanding of environmental science can help with knowing when a natural disaster may occur and how to combat this disaster. 3. What efforts can we make to create a sustainable future? The efforts we can make to create a sustainable future is creating resources for people who want to know more about how we can protect our environment. Reflection: I really enjoyed this project , researching volcanos and watching videos with active volcanos. Completing this project really opened my eyes about common myths about volcanos and how they erupt. If I never did this assignment I would of never knew about active volcanos that are in Europe as of right now.
