Food Deserts

Posted by Ambrosia Carr in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · Y s1 on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 10:44 pm

In our PSA, we talk about Food Deserts , which are places where there is little to no fresh produce. We chose This topic because it’s a subject that no one talks about.I did research and I gathered the extra videos to add to ours.I think we gave pretty good examples about some food deserts in our area.We could’ve had a longer script. The most meaningful part was our message https://youtu.be/Nmo2ITdn88A

PSA

Posted by Katherine Russell in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · Y s1 on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 10:01 pm

The PSA starts out with interviews from locals of Bala Cynwyd located in Philadelphia. After the interviews with the locals on the topic of food deserts, we talked about certain specific areas that are highly affected by food deserts. Why we picked this topic is because most of the people we interviewed do not even know what a food desert is. Neither did I know what a food desert was. The public is lacking knowledge of food deserts. Food deserts affect cities that are stricken with extreme poverty lines or injustice with the population who are below the poverty line. How I contributed to the project is by writing the script and getting started on the first few checkpoints. What I did well was making a plan for the video by typing up the script. I also provided most of the information that was described in the second part of the PSA. One part that could’ve been done differently was that I should’ve added more sources for the rest of the group to have access to. The most meaningful of the project of creating the PSA was just the accomplishment of completing the project.

Food desserts in America

Posted by Anthony Islam in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · Y s1 on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 9:03 pm

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=c-J2q_fjaPo In this video we highlighted how horrible it is for lower incomes communities when it comes to food desserts. I chose to do this topic because I believe that everyone should be able to access food efficiently. For this project I did voiceovers for different sections of the video and went with Gianna to record the videos for moral support. We did really well in doing everything required of us in a timely fashion. The most meaningful part of the psa was getting the input of real people who are impacted or aware of this problem.

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning PSA

Posted by Kenny Nguyen in Environmental Science · Sasso-Chryst · Y s1 on Wednesday, January 15, 2020 at 7:42 pm

In our video, we have a little song that makes understanding what carbon Monoxide poisoning does. We also have the stats and cause & effect of carbon monoxide poisoning. I chose this topic because this is a huge problem in the environment. Just because you don’t be poison by it, it doesn’t mean it affecting something else. CO is heating up the Earth and is melting the polar caps. Polar bears are losing their home and soon will be us since the sea level are also rising.

Provide a reflection on how you contributed to the project and the role you played in the group.

I contributed to the project by helping the group with the research and transforming it into our video. I also did the editing for the video, I’m not the best at it but I think it went well.

What did you do well and what could you have done differently?

I think our song came out better than we thought. I would try to make the video a little shorter because a PSA is supposed to be a quick video, but the song wouldn’t ex[lain everything.

What was the most meaningful part of the experience of creating the PSA?

The most meaningful part of making this PSA was the song because it took some time using the information and making it rhyme with other information for the song.

Lead

I didn't know about lead poisoning until now, but it's really concerning. Once I got to sit down and read it, it was a huge shock because I didn't realize it was that bad I find it really sad how many children's lives will forever be impacted due to the laziness of tenants of homes. People kids are in danger and if the parents don’t even know about lead then it’s just makes it even worse. We should share this problem with everyone we know who isn’t aware because it would be one of our family members next.

After reading about the lead poisoning in Philadelphia, it made me worry about my siblings that I have that attend public schools and how this could ever affect them. I also began to wonder how long this kind of issue had been going on. I also began to question why this is still occurring and why hasn't the city done everything they can to stop it. https://padlet.com/ghandschin20/97qte6vo9d3q

Before this article was brought to my attention I was never aware of how much lead we actually still have hiding in the city. Once I got to sit down and read it, it was a huge shock because I didn't realize it was that bad and when I looked at the little map thing and saw that my neighboorhood had the dark red color code I was a little taken back. (Luckily my house has been completely remodeled so it's okay) but other people in my neighboorhood... I feel kinda bad. I really think more people should be aware of this stuff considering how harmful it can be, especially in households with children.

I didn't know about lead poisoning until now, but it's really concerning. It's upsetting that it negatively affects kids and the reason they even go through the experience is because landowners don't want to tell families that the place has issues or else they won't buy. In the article, my group read we found out that it's really bad in North Philly houses and especially school buildings.
