Mercury Exposure PSA

Posted by Ayanna Russell in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 12:24 pm

My group and I chose Mercury Exposure as our topic for the content of our video. We talked about the cause of the problem, who and how the environment is affected and how different regions are working to take care of the problem. The most common way people in the U.S. are exposed to mercury is by eating fish containing methylmercury.  Philadelphia workers are practicing mercury free dentistry, when people get their teeth filled there is mercury found in the filling so they want to exempt this so that no one is affected.

I did the first checkpoint on my own which is where all the information came from to do the following checkpoints, I also finished the checkpoint early so that there was extra time left just in case the group needed more time making the video. This helped with checkpoint two and three because since the information was already researched, we could then make up questions that were already answered in the first checkpoint.

Something I did well was finish the first checkpoint to help my group excel and something I wish I would have done more of is spoke in the video but my group member had the ideas for the video so I didn’t need to speak as much.

The most meaning part of the video I would say is that mercury exposure goes unnoticed while it is actually as dangerous as lead being in the water pipes inside of our schools and homes. I’d say people need to be more mindful of what they consume as well as just doing some general research on the environment.

Oil Spill PSA

Posted by Alisha Lane in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 12:16 pm

VIDEO

For this PSA my group and I studied oil spills, we chose this topic because years ago there was a large oil spill in the gulf of Mexico, but many people were unaware of the affects. I wanted to go further into the topic mostly because the first thing that came to mind when someone says oil spills to me, I think about the dawn commercials. In our video we highlight the affects of oil spills and investigate what knowledge our school community has. In this project I did some of the research, threw out ideas for the video and acted as the videographer for a majority of the recording , I feel like I cooperated well, but I would've liked to throw more ideas out there, and be more active in the group. A meaningful part of the PSA for me was the interviews I was very shocked to find out that not many people knew what oil spills were, and they didn't remember the dawn campaign. I think bringing awareness to the subject will bring a new light to being environmentally aware.

Carbon Monoxide Awareness

Posted by Benjamin Hahn in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 12:06 pm

My group and I chose to do our project on Carbon Monoxide poisoning because the fact that it can kill you without you even knowing what’s happening is really scary. I our video we talked about statistics, symptoms of carbon monoxide poisoning, and politics about carbon monoxide.

Environmental Science PSA/ Air Pollution

Posted by Asaad Parsons in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 12:02 pm

In the video, we started off with an introduction to the issue of air pollution and how it affects everyone and the earth. In the first images, we included a voice over that would show the significance of the images while talking about the issue. I choose this topic because I am really aware of air pollution and I know that in order to make a helpful change to our environment, we as humans will have to make a lot of changes that some of us will not be ok with. I contributed to this project by research a lot of details that we eventually included in our video. I also played the role of using myself as an example of how an individual could be negatively affecting their environment without even knowing it. I think I did well with coming up with the idea of showing how one can negatively impact their environment without even knowing it. If I were to do this again, I would try to go outside the school and capture some important footage that is hard to get. The most meaningful part of the video is when we discussed how we hurt the environment by simply doing what we want to do.

Q2 Benchmark Littering PSA

Posted by Miki Huang in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 11:57 am

For our quarter two benchmark, my group and I decided to make a PSA about littering. Although part of the beginning sounds more like a PSA to minimize the use of plastic bottle we later go into more depth on what litter can do to our environment. One of the reasons we chose to do this topic was because Philadelphia has a big littering problem and we wanted to raise awareness on how it is affecting our environment. In the process of this project, I helped with gathering information to put together in a slide show and filming parts of the skit. Something I thought we did well was including humor into a serious topic. However, towards the end, it feels like we threw together all of the pieces we were missing from the rubric into the slides instead of incorporating it into the skit. I think that the most meaningful of creating this PSA was learning more about how litter not only affects the living organisms such as humans and animals, but also the soil and plants.

Oil Spills

Posted by Zaina Belgrave in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 11:45 am

In this video me and my team of experts walk around the school asking people what they know about oil spills. They know nothing so we take it upon ourselves to create a video education people about oil spills. We tell them about how they happen, the affects on the environment and then clean up and further steps that could be taken. We chose this topic because people never really learned oil spills in school and it was just a topic I personally wonder about.

I contributed to the project by helping to write the script. Also coaching everyone on what to say a long with filming and editing the video together.

I think I filmed and all the editing for the project went really well for me. I feel like I could've taken the script more seriously.

The most meaningful part of creating this PSA was the freeze frame at the end.

Carbon Monoxide PSA

Posted by Zanaya Lawhorn in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 11:44 am

Video: https://youtu.be/NFAOvzCJcas Me and my group decided to choose Carbon Monoxide because it is really dangerous and could effect a lot of our lives, if we are unaware. I was even unaware of Carbon Monoxide poisoning myself , so it was interesting to actually learn about it. I contributed to the project by helping my other team mates choose this topic , I rehearsed and recorded important information that was then inserted into the video , I even helped with editing the begging of the video. I think that i could have included more information or could have tried to make better and eye catching edits. I think the most meaningful things about this Psa is that we actually were able to get the message out there and hopefully , people began to open there eyes to the Canon Monoxide that could be around them.

Mercury exposure

Posted by Kyra Stokes in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Monday, January 14, 2019 at 11:37 am

In this video we mimic the way famous you tubers appeal to the public about serious issues. Mercury exposure is serious you can tell by the name alone but we wanted to use this because of how unpopular it is. We also used this video to show how it was unpopular among people in our immediate community. I made the script and gave suggestions for the video style we went with my choice and I made sure my team members were on track and knew what they had to do. I think I did the editing well I also think I could have made the video a little better by saying certain transitions but I still think the video is good. The most meaningful part is how people don’t really know much but we are here to end that!

Carbon Monoxide Poisoning

Posted by Julie Baker in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Sunday, January 13, 2019 at 11:11 pm

Video: https://youtu.be/NFAOvzCJcas The reason why my group chose carbon monoxide poisoning for the topic of our project was for the fact that it is a very scary topic. Carbon monoxide is known as the silent killer and I have seen many news articles of deaths caused by carbon monoxide poisoning. My group members' and I all worked together to complete the checkpoints and creating the script and I am the one who put the video together. One thing I believed we did well was explaining how there is an issue of how little people care about this poisoning and the solution for it. If there was something I had to change it would be for the video to be longer. The most meaningful part of this project for me was to remind myself about how important it is to make sure that you are all caught up with a new carbon monoxide poisoning before it is too late.

Global Water Crisis Info-graphic

Posted by Daniel Baez in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 10:30 am

Made with Padlet
Something that stood out to me was the Flint Michigan incident. The crisis has affected 90 people they have become sickened and 12 people have died. The water was contaminated by high lead level and a water born legionnaires disease. Also some places that are going through global water crisis are Brazil, Iran, Indian,  and China. Water around the world is greatly affected and we don't really notice about it because since we live at an area where water is in good conditions we tends to only worry about our selves and not think outside the box. I think that global water crisis is an environmental justice issue because the environment is being harmed, which is where we get our water from so if the water is contaminated we will not have anything to drink going into dehydration and maybe death.
