Tsunami Reflection

Posted by Zanaya Lawhorn in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Thursday, September 13, 2018 at 3:05 pm

Zanaya Lawhorn Ms.Aziz Sept 13 , 2018 Reflection For my [project the natural disaster that my group chose was Tsunamis . A tsunami is a high sea wave that is caused by an underwater earthquake .These wave can be as tall as 100 fee and can travel from 500-800 Kilometers . These tsunamis can throw the atmosphere off balance , while damaging the soil that we have here on dry land . Tsunamis also destroy the environment becuase now everything is flooded. A tsunami brings a lot of water energy with it ,which means the pressure is very dangerous it would be best to stay on high grounds away from heavy objects . I believe that tsunamis are natural and their isn't a way to necessarily prevent them but we as people can prepare by having safety plans and having certain area maybe waterproof that can fit large amounts of people . When it comes to natural disasters the best thing we can do to protect ourselves is to stay aware .

Tsunamis

A Tsunami is a big wave usually caused by an earthquake on the Earth surface. The 4 spheres that make up the Earth's systems are disturbed by the disaster. The ozone layer, clouds (atmosphere), the ocean is forced from it's homeostasis to a raging destructive wave (hydrosphere), the land nearby is destroyed (lithosphere) , and the people nearby are dead or homeless. The kinetic energy that builds up in the wave starting from the earthquake is the reason the rest of the spheres are affected. People could grow mangroves and teach their young to take care of them, people can make shelter high up and overall be aware of their environment because they could possibly have a Tsunami in their area.

The video my group did was on the textile industry.  We chose this because it is something a lot of people don’t talk about, and we were interested to learn more information about it.  The textile industry is something that is involved in our everyday lives and I did not realize how much it affected our environment.

For the project we did it in the form of a talk show.  I helped write a lot of the script, research information, and helped film the video.  I think we did a good job filming and finding out good information on the topic.  Something I would of done differently is not let anyone else in the room while we are filming as it was very distracting.

The most meaningful part of this to me was being able to create a video sharing a good message with my friends.  It taught me more about using the cameras and I learned a lot about a topic I did not even realize was a problem before.

Lead Poison PSA

My group's PSA was about lead poisoning and that dangers that it can cause, as well as what causes it and what we can do to prevent it. I agreed on the topic of lead poisoning because, as we learned in a previous unit, it is a very serious issue. This environmental issue stood out from the others because it affected you directly in your own home. The affects that it has on families is devastating, and I felt it was important to talk about.
For this project, I recorded the introduction and filmed the outro, and was in charge of the video editing. I enjoyed editing the video and bringing all of my group's clips together, and I feel that it turned out well. If there was something I would change, I would add transition clips in between each segment. I feel as though it would add more to the PSA. However, the moving images which were used in the project helps to keep the viewers entertained, and overall they got the message across. My favorite clip was at the end, which was a clip of my younger cousins presenting what they knew about lead.
The most meaningful part about creating this PSA was knowing that the people watching it will be better informed about a serious issue. Lead poisoning can greatly damage your health, and cause developmental setbacks in children which can affect them for life. I want to spread the word about this issue, so that no one's life will be disrupted by lead poisoning anymore. Hopefully, the message will be spread and the issue will be solved.

Air Pollution PSA

Posted by Nathan Lewis in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Sunday, January 21, 2018 at 11:40 pm

  1.  This video is a PSA about air pollution. It consist of information about the causes and affects of air pollution and a conclusion of how we can try to fix this issue. We chose this topic because I was aware that air pollution is a huge problem especially living in the city and my teacher also thought it was a good idea, because she did not get a chance to touch up on the topic.
  2. I contributed a lot to this project by, doing research, coming up with ideas and the plot for the story.I had multiple roles as a; camera man,an actor in the story and also editing the video.
  3. I applied my knowledge very well and also judged my project by the rubric. I could've been a little better at time management, but that was only because I had one partner.
  4. The most meaningful part of creating this PSA was doing research about environmental justice and getting to know how things are, in different parts of the World.

Mercury Poisoning PSA

Posted by Brandon James in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 11:58 pm

1. For this project, my group decided to create a PSA to show awareness of mercury poisoning. I was personally interested because I sometimes eat a lot of fish, and when I found out that fish contains mercury, I was shocked and a bit nervous. So I wanted to learn more.
2. I believe I played a significant role in terms of contributing to the project by editing the video as well as coming up with a script.
3. One thing I believe we did well was gathering the research for the project, but one thing I would like to change would be the video itself.
4. The most meaningful part of this project was that I learned more about the harms of mercury poisoning and that anyone who eats fish are at risk of having it regardless even those odds are small.

Litter Pollution Project

Posted by Mukhtar Stones in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 11:40 pm

During this quarter, we learned a lot about the problems not only in the U.S but the world faces a problem with pollution. For our project we mostly focused on litter pollution and the affects it has on the people and environment. In general pollution is never really good, we kill the earth and destroy its natural resources by doing so. Littering builds up and becomes a problem because we then don't know what do with all the trash that takes up so much landfill, and space. The process for making this project was not hard, and i worked with good group members, we all had an important roll to play to create a cohesive video of us talking about the affects of litter pollution on the environment. People should really watch this video because its important, litter isn't something little, and that piece of trash you throw away can be there forever.

Q2 Water Pollution Benchmark

Posted by Ivana Gutierrez in Environmental Science · Aziz · E on Friday, January 19, 2018 at 11:26 pm

Our video is a PSA of water pollution. It’s basically me and my group members speaking on the topic and how it can be resolved. We chose this topic because we believed that water pollution is an important factor that we should know. We use water everyday and we can die if we don’t have it. Water is important to everything that is living.

What I contribute to the project was by giving ideas and editing the video. I believe we could’ve done better in recording more for our video and adding more information. The most meaningful part of this experience of creating the PSA is learning about water pollution and how it can affect us and ways we can prevent it.
