Artist Statement: In our video we show everything that we believe defines us. We include everything that we believe differentiates us from each other. Like parts of our cultures, interests, hobbies, goals, and beliefs. Through these things we ourselves were able to point out how different each of us are. And even though we singled out all of our differences we are able to look past that and easily accept and collaborate with each other. We chose this approach to our video because we wanted to accentuate our differences to better show the message we wanted to convey. That message was just because we are different doesn’t mean we can’t get along.

Our unit was about people of different backgrounds, different interests, different mind sets coming together and expressing themselves to each other. In the unit we focused on the theme of identity and self expression to show our true selves. We learned how to accept each other for who we are and how to express ourselves without a mask. We think that our video represents some new learning and knowledge. It represents how people with differences can overcome those differences and get along. Also with enough collaboration you can learn to accept each other.

In order to understand my video you should know that it is a each picture is a part of a bigger has a greater meaning. Every picture has a place and was carefully placed there. Each section represents a theme. For example, I may have used a group of photos together of me with my friends and family in order to show the theme of friendship and loyalty with is one of my values. When doing this project I learned that it is important to recognize that we are all different, complex individuals. We should also recognized that even though we maybe different and complex that we all can connect despite our differences. - Tronta Pounds
We express ourselves to develop and show our personality and identity. For example, a person  might express themselves through their fashion sense. To explain, they might dress themselves a certain way due to emotions or environmental settings, like they might be feeling lazy one day so they decide to wear sweatpants, a simple t-shirt and sneakers. Another example of expressing yourself is communicating. To be specific, the person might be comfortable talking to a person they fully trust about what they are feeling  or what they are going through. Someone might know what that person is going through so they expressed themselves.  I used to dress in African clothes every day back in Africa,  reflected on my environment, but since I came here I stopped wearing African clothes. I still wear them for parties and my summer camp because I am around other African friends. Radiatou Diarra

One thing you should know about my video is that I believe I have expressed the complexity of who I am by showing the side of my self that isn’t expressed in my daily life. Most of the things that were shown in my video are things that I do on my personal time or whenever I can. None of that normally transfers into the things I do everyday or the way I present my self daily. I’ve shown a part of me that was covered by a mask.

By completing this project I learned that there are reasons on why we express ourselves and that there are effects of technology on the way we express ourselves and the way we connect with others. I learned that we express ourselves to show and develop our identity through the reactions of others to figure out who we are. We also express ourselves because we want others to know who we are. Technology affects the way we express ourselves and connect with others by allowing us to express ourselves faster and more publicly. It let’s us share with people around the world so more people can see who you are. It also makes some make less people interact socially and makes them interact more through the use of technology. - Epifanio Rios

To fully understand my video, you have to understand that I’m not like everyone else so things you would see in my video, others won't consider important to them or may not include in their own. I would  define myself as unique and different. My video includes images of my family and I and “Selfies” and also my favorite celebrity. I cherish these images because they all are very important to me and a big aspect of my life. - Aiesha Langley

Group Artist Statement

This unit was about how we relate to each other and how we are similar or different. Our assignment was to create a two to four minute group video including these things in almost anyway that we could. We learned through this process more about everyone as a person on a more personal level. We showed that even though we all may not have the same interests, we are willing to try things out. We also learned that we are all very accepting of everyone’s personalities and interests, as well as who we are. We all tried new thing in the video like dancing, and basketball. This video consisted of us showing how we have similar experiences by portraying stereotypes that have been used to describe us, showing our personal and individual interests, and trying things out as a group.

Hadja Diallo's artist statement

How have I expressed the complexity of myself in this video? I express myself by being who I am, and being proud of the things I can do, because it doesn’t matter what people think of me, all that matters is me being proud of who I am and who I am about to become in the future!.

In this video I express myself by being confident and proud of who I am. I express myself through my culture because culture is what makes me different. I am a proud  African, I speak (five) different languages  (fullani, French, Mandingo, sosso, and English), they are part of my life because that’s how I connect to my family and friends.

To fully understand this video, you have to understand what it is to be African and who i am. I defined my personality and through each picture. From doing this project and presenting it to my classmates, I learned that you can be different and not be ashamed of my individuality
Jack Kleiner's Artist statement

In my video, I expressed the complexity of my personality by included many different types of things that I enjoy and parts of my identity. I used multiple time lapse videos of me playing guitar to express my love for music, flipping through a large book to show how much I love to read, and drawing the solar system to show how much I love science and astronomy/astrophysics. I also included many pictures of me and my friends because they are a large part of my life and have significantly affected me in a positive way. By doing this project, I learned that it is important to express myself truthfully and as comfortably as I can because that way I can friends who know who I am. I learned that there are many people are who are accepting of me for my differences and quirks, even if they’re really weird.

Lamira Jeffreys' Artist statement

I have expressed myself in this video by doing all the people I love and that have made a huge impact in my life and the future of my life now with all the people I’ve met and things I am going to do. I picked my family and best friends because I believe that they have made me into the great person I am today and that if I would ever lose them I would cry my heart out. Then i have my future for my future friends that i have met this year that like me for who I am. I learned by doing my project and viewing  others I learned that some of use are not really different we all have little things that make us alike. I also learned what some of my friends and fellow classmates like and appreciate in their life.
Paul Force's Artist Statement:

We express ourselves because we want people to know about us, what we like, what we want to do, what we do, and what we think.  We also express ourselves so that we can be social if we find people who have some common interests so that we can make friends or just communicate with others.  I expressed myself in the My Video assignment by showing people who I am friends with, doing things with my friends, things that I like, doing things I like, and showing people, these are the things that I like to do in my spare time that I have.  For example, I took pictures with my friends when we had time, in classes, I took pictures of me in class, watching TV, videos of my friend and me skateboarding, me playing the guitar, playing video games, and really anything that I thought was interesting in my life.
Asmar Beyah's Artist Statement

In the video, I showed the stereotypes I deal with everyday of my life. Everybody in my neighborhood, people think that I'm going to grow up to be a criminal. I extremely dislike the  criminal side of this world and I don't associate work those people. I want to grow up to be successful and be proud of who I will become.
